From what I’ve heard Pratchett’s health has been ropey for some time now. I seem to recall from my bookselling days a publisher telling me of how he brought Mr Pratchett to Ireland for some promotional appearances and the author ended up spending the majority of his time in a Dublin hospital. Hopefully he’ll be able to bounce back from this one. You never know, with the recent advances in stem cell research I wouldn’t be surprised if degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s are relatively treatable in the next decade.
