Once we start adding information like this in an e-book we are halfway towards custom publishing, it would be possible (I’m thinking fiction here of course) to change character names and introduce other information related to the consumer not just for marketing purposes but to immerse the reader more in to the work.

What we have then is the beginning of a truely interactive book, which I think will be one way forward for e-books, though it will require a major change in the way an author writes.

Blended product is going to be the way forward over the next few years, and a subject I will be touching on in my blog later this month, but we still have to keep one eye firmly fixed on the future and I really do believe that the future will involve digital content.
